Experiences with Technology

Hello all! I hope this week is going well! This post will discuss my experiences with Diigo, my thoughts on blogging, and Web 2.0 tools. Without further ado, we can get right into it!

These past two weeks are the first time I've ever used Diigo, and before I had never even heard of it. My first impression of Diigo was that it looked confusing, and that it didn't look very good. However, after a couple tutorial videos, Diigo has proven to be easier to use than expected and has proven to be relatively useful. The advantages of using Diigo is pretty good, as it's a great way to share resources and your thoughts on them. One feature I appreciate is how you can annotate and leave sticky notes on webpages you share, so that you can show others what you note of an article or other resource very easily.

Before this blog, I have had experience writing a blog once before. However, before this one, I only kept up with it for a short while and only ever had two or three posts. My experiences with this blog has been much more substantial and long lasting, and it is very interesting. It is nice to be able to type out my thoughts in a more personal way than research papers can, or other college papers. I wish it was a bit easier to design and rearrange your blog page, but other than that it is very easy to use. The more I blog, the more features I discover and the easier it is, so in this case practice makes perfect!

In recent years there has been an increase in Web 2.0 resources. Furthermore, this has led to the result of Web 2.0 tools being increasingly introduced into classrooms and schools. Web 2.0 tools are super handy and helpful due to their engaging and educational nature. One particular tool I plan to use in any classrooms I teach is Kahoot. This is very popular to use in classrooms and for good reason, as it is a fun and engaging trivia game that is great for review. It is also something that is great for the quieter kids or the kids more reluctant to contribute to class in normal settings because it can be anonymous as well as not putting kids on the spot. It is important to note that this could only logically be used in older classrooms as it needs the kids to have some sort of smartphone to participate, so it is important to note your classroom age and level of access to smartphones. Here is a link to the Kahoot webpage if you're interested in checking it out: https://kahoot.com/

That wraps up this blog post, and I hope you enjoyed reading! Thank you all for taking the time to read and I'll see you next time!

  1. Hi! This is also my first time using Diigo! I agree that at first it seems a little confusing. I agree that after using it a bit I think it is a helpful tool for sharing bookmarked pages with a group. This is also my first time creating a blog. I think it's great that you have found using a blog to be such an enriching experience! I love Kahoot! It is also a fun tool to use when reviewing material in the classroom!
