Introduction of a FSU Student
Hello all! As my blog heavily implies, I am currently a FSU student. I major in Psychology and I am currently acquiring a minor in education. I have also completed a child development minor. I am a third year this semester; however, I have enough credits to be viewed as a senior. I am expected to graduate in either Fall 2022 or Spring 2023. Now, as for my identity outside of FSU, some of my hobbies include crocheting, gardening, and video games. I also enjoy anime and, oddly enough, British dramas such as Downton Abbey and the BBC show Merlin. I do attend my local church as well on Sundays as well as Wednesdays. Between all that, I work part-time at a local diner. The typical busyness of a college student.
This blog is primarily used for my Educational Technology class, therefore I will detail my prior experiences using educational technology in an educational setting. The most prominent tool I've used, especially in the past, is email. This allowed me to communicate easily to my teachers, advisors, and fellow students. It also helped keep a record of past correspondence and assignments I submitted through email. Many assignments were also completed through Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, which I have earned certifications for in the 2017 models. PowerPoint additionally has helped tremendously when presenting in a classroom setting, as it allows a visual aspect of my presentations. Other modes of connection I have experience with include WhatsApp, GroupMe, and Zoom. All three of these allow for communication in group settings. For WhatsApp and GroupMe they allow an easy way to message in groupchats with fellow students. Zoom can additionally be used to meet in study groups, classes, and meetings with teachers or advisors. Finally, YouTube is a common tool I use that connects me to teacher videos, tutorial videos, and other resources.
Much of my PLN (Personal Learning Network) can also be attributed to the resources stated above. A major part of my learning network would be from YouTube due to the vast amount of help I can receive there, from understanding a concept better to researching a topic. The comments section also connects me to a community who can help me answer any questions I have, and YouTube has many different communities you can easily plug into. This includes outside of my school life, where I can get information on gardening care tips to crocheting tutorials, which are a lifesaver! Canvas is particularly useful as it easily helps me stay connected to my professors and fellow students, and I can connect with them there to ask any questions I may have. With WhatsApp it helps me connect with my classmates, in particular my German study group messages using WhatsApp to ask questions or set up times to meet in person to study. Apps in general are great resources, for example I use an app called Leo which is a translation app. Anytime I need help defining a word in German, I can use that resource to help me learn it. As for learning networks outside of technology, a great personal example can be see in my church. Whenever I need help understanding a passage in the Bible, or have any questions in general, I have many people I can ask at my church. This is a perfect example of a personal learning connection I have that helps grow my personal learning network.
Overall, my experiences with educational technologies can also be easily incorporated into growing my personal learning network; however, it can still grow outside of technology. Technology definitely makes things easier though, as well as connect us to a vast variety of people and communities. Your personal experiences and connections all help form your individual, unique personal learning network and I look forward to growing mine through the experience of maintaining this blog.
